Prices in photography/film and arts can be a bit confusing, as you are not just paying for a product, but for pre and post production time, years of study and material/equipment used. - When it comes to the intellectual part of pricing, it is an almost impossible measure to metric (only college tuition or the value of workshops and courses could be easily tagged). - To price time, I always consider the whole process. From planning and meetings, to filming and post-production. It can be faster when shooting an event, for example, or longer when producing a movie. - In photography and filmmaking, every little bit of equipment is a big expense, hardly a single piece of equipment will cost less than a few hundred. In addition to the need to always update the equipment, I also consider 5% of the budget as savings for replacements. - Applications and websites: to add to the expenses there are editing apps, for example: adobe CC costs €62 per month, envato elements for music copyright-free and other assets is €208 per year, and the list go forever. ​- And the last point to consider, but not least, is taxes in Germany: 19% (of the total) as an umsatzsteuer (VAT) + 40% (of the total) for health insurance, taxes, pension, etc. ​As a freelancer it's important to think like a company, where you need to pay your own salary, expenses, but also reinvest in the company to grow.
